Ghostly International

Matthew Dear

The album Beams lands two years after Black City, arguably Dear's most critically acclaimed work to date. It includes the title track from the Headcage EP, which came out on Ghostly International in April and is now available as a free download from the label's website. All of the other tracks are previously unreleased. The first track, "Her Fantasy," will be released as a single in June.

"I'm about four to five different people at any given time," Dear says in the album's press release. "By allowing all of those different personalities to exist... the most pure and direct self can come through in the music. [The songs] may still be cryptic, and full of contradictions—but in my opinion, that is pure, unadulterated thought in musical form. They are direct lines to the center."

Beams was recorded at in Dear's home studio and mixed at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn. The portrait on the cover comes from Ghostly's go-to artist, Michael Cina.
