Beyond the 4th Door

Portland act Eternal Tapestry started in the fall of 2005, after original members Nick Bindeman and Dewey Mahood discovered their mutual love of Sonny Sharrock and Neu! Threading together improvised guitar with structured rhythms and layered ambient sound, they soon recruited a few friends to join them in the band, and so it began. Active in the experimental underground, the band have worked on tapes, LPs, solo and side projects, as well as playing live. Focusing more on the space between notes rather than just a barrage of notes, ‘Beyond The 4th Door’ is an endless void of free-floating, improvised guitar hero moments in a neo-psychedelic sphere. The dark psych-rock builds from the contemplative, atmospheric opener of ‘Ancient Echos’ through to the heavy epic ‘Galactic Derelict’, finishing with a hint of light in the delicate guitar and bass interplay, open cymbals and horn work of ‘Time Winds Through A Glass, Clearly’. Home-recorded and encompassing more than two hours of material, mostly recorded live, ‘Beyond The 4th Door’ is meant to be listened to in its entirety; there is no single, no easy sound bite.
