Sons And Daughters

Mirror Mirror

It seems like it’s been a long time since Scottish folk-rockers Sons and Daughters broke out with the single “Johnny Cash” in 2004. But they’ve only released two full length albums since their debut EP: 2005’s The Repulsion Box and 2008’s This Gift. Those two records were enjoyable enough, but they showed the band straining at the boundaries of its foot-stomping, guitar-strumming genre. For their third album, Mirror, Mirror, Sons and Daughters have decided to switch things up by working with JD Twitch, one half of Glasgow DJ duo Optimo. The band has created a set of tracks heavy on moody synthesizers and stark percussion. The vocal interplay between Scott Paterson and Adele Bethel has always been a major part of the Sons and Daughters’ attack, but now that the band’s swaggering rockabilly accompaniment has been exchanged for something more minimal, the two singers will become the sole focus.
