Francois Hardy

Francois Hardy

When she passed her baccalaureate in 1961, Françoise Hardy's father gave her a guitar as a present and unwittingly kicked off her singing career. She answered a newspaper ad from Vogue studios and landed a recording contract in November 1961. The disc we have here was issued in France exactly a year later. Françoise's first EP comprised 'Oh Oh Chéri' (written by two of Johnny Hallyday's songwriters) and three of her own compositions. DJ Daniel Filipacchi took one of these, 'Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles' (All the Boys and Girls), and played it constantly on his show, Radio Europe's Salut les Copains. In October she appeared on television and the song took off first in France and then worldwide. The French public loved her for her shy temperament, soft voice and understated natural beauty; Françoise Hardy was the ultimate girl-next-door.
