Rough Trade Shops - End of the Road 2016

This is the fourth CD collaboration between Rough Trade Shops and End of the Road Festival and, as always, the tracks are selected by EOTR's Simon Taffe from artists playing at this year's event. If you are an attendee you will already be primed and will know exactly what to expect from the festival's consistently superlative line up, with selections from alternative rock to freakscene, from folk to country teasin' and a myriad of sub genres between. Baltimore's Animal Collective bring their Beach Boys-esque psychedelia, melding otherworldly vocal harmonies, electronica and their own magic in the most mind-bending ways, while the magnetic Devendra Banhart's eerie and joyful storytelling is always a welcome visitor to Larmer Tree Gardens. The influence of Kath Bloom's 40 year career can be heard in Banhart's oeuvre, her warm harmonies and unmistakeable voice will be something not to be missed this year. Singer songwriters par excellence will of course be in attendance, this year the genre represented by the enthralling M. Ward, the intimately frank Laura Gibson and the unique balladeer Meilyr Jones among others. Switching things up, Thee ferocious Oh Sees and the vibrantly joyous Goat will be bringing the raucous in support of the razor-sharp post punk Savages and the iconic Thurston Moore, while pop-avant garde shows from U.S. Girls and Jenny Hval will be hot tickets. And we haven't even mentioned that the legendary Scritti Politti are playing one of their incredibly rare live shows this year too! Add Omar Souleyman, Eleanor Friedberger, Steve Mason, Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Bill Ryder-Jones, Field Music and Amber Arcades among many, many more and you have another wonderful line up of diverse and boundary-pushing talent on this release and at this year's event.
