Wakin' On A Pretty Daze (Post Haze Edition)

It’s been another epic year for Kurt Vile, following the release of his adored fifth long-player ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’ in April. The next six months have seen Vile make his television debut, grace magazine covers on both sides of the Atlantic, touring across North America and Europe, plus recognition from his beloved hometown as the Mayor of Philadelphia announced August 28th ‘Kurt Vile Day’, with visits to Japan, Australia and more to come in 2014.

Not a bad year for the former forklift driver, who’s shown that behind his veneer of lackadaisical creativity is a songwriter toiling hard to make music with such hazy perfection seem so laid-back. Within just a few years he’s quietly become one of the new great American guitarists and songwriters of our time, crafting an album that would have sounded great 30 years ago, sounds great today and will still sound great 30 years from now.

The new ‘Deluxe Daze (Post Haze)’ edition includes ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’ repackaged with the new ‘it’s a big world out there (and i am scared)’ EP.

‘it’s a big world out there (and i am scared)’ features six (seven, but one is a reprise) previously unreleased songs. Recorded during the same sessions as the album, ‘it’s a big world out there (and i am scared)’ sheds further light to the ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’ recording process with new songs, mixes and alternate versions of select album tracks. The original ‘Air Bud’ and ‘Snowflakes Are Dancing’ tunes are reprised as ‘Wedding Budz’ and ‘Snowflakes Extended’ respectively, whilst the brand new number ‘Feel My Pain’ channels (previous collaborator) Michael Chapman’s fingerpicking, distilled through the signature sound and style of Kurt Vile, Philadelphia’s constant hitmaker.

The new deluxe album artwork re-works the EPSO mural in Philadelphia, with graphics that adorned the original cover of ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’.
