"Am I singing for strangers?" muses Aidan Knight on the M. Ward-esque 'You Will See The Good In Everyone'. The feeling on 'Small Reveal' is that Knight is singing mainly for himself as a form of catharsis in the face of isolation. That's far from a bad thing because Knight's delicately restless self-explorations resonate on a much larger level. No longer confined as a solo singer-songwriter (his name embodies a five-piece band), Knight is embracing a gloomier sound. 'Small Reveal' is shrouded in shimmering strings and delicately blown horns, opener 'Dream Team' exploding at the five-minute mark into a percussive, guitar-driven maelstrom. The arrangements are sparse but brilliantly executed: 'A Mirror and Skip' glitter, 'The Master's Call' creaks under Knight's whispers about love and the passing of time, and grand finale 'Margaret Downe' is an achingly beautiful portrait of love found and ultimately lost that will break your heart and leave it lying in pieces.
