Alan Moore & Mitch Jenkins

Show Pieces

DVD and audio CD boxset featuring 100 page book of screen plays by Alan Moore and illustrations by Kristian Hammerstad. DVD includes 5 short films and extra bonus material including interviews with Alan and Mitch. CD of the soundtrack to the films.

Writer Alan Moore – best known for his ground-breaking graphic novels, including; The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V For Vendetta and The Watchmen – and director Mitch Jenkins have made five, richly detailed neo-noir films set in Jimmy’s End – a semi-fictional world created by cult hero and celebrated writer Moore and bought to life by photographer-turned-director Jenkins.
Notably the project is Moore’s first work written specifically for the screen and made with his blessing and ongoing creative involvement.

The Jimmy's End saga is made up of five shorts. Rather like a comic book series, each film in the cycle contributes to the overall story, as well as having a clear, standalone narrative and purpose.

Tracklist
  • The Films:
    Part 1: Act of Faith:
The eerie, and borderline surreal short starring Siobhan Hewlett that begins our introduction to the world of The Show.

    Part 2: Jimmy’s End
Louche and hard-drinking womaniser James Mitchum (Darrell D'Silva) finds himself wandering into one strange bar too many. Filmed though the lushly textured eye of Jenkin's light saturated photography, Jimmy's End is a deliberate foray into the uncanny constructed through Moore's eyes.

"Jenkins has expertly crafted a haunting glimpse into the world of those tortured by their desires" - Shorts of the Week

"Defiantly avante garde, this louche and oddly sinister vignette suggests that Moore...is determinedly disinterested in regurgitating his own comic-book back catalogue: we're definitely not in Smallville any more." - The Guardian

    Part 3: Upon Reflection
Leonard Brock talks shop in a fly on the wall view of St. James Working Mens Club. The arrival of a visitor disrupts the maudlin equilibrium of the evening.

    Part 4: A Professional Relationship
Matchbright and Metterton - a working partnership, a meeting of two minds. A Double Act. Well at least that's the general concept. All is fair in love and war.

    Part 5: His Heavy Heart:
His Heavy Heart pulls James out of that white light and back into colour.

SOUNDTRACK BY : Adam Drucker and Andrew Broder as Crook & Flail.
