Mark Stewart

The Politics Of Envy

Mark Stewart is set to return with his new studio album 'The Politics Of Envy' on March 26th.

As the frontman with The Pop Group, Mark Stewart blazed through genre lines, fusing avant garde music with subversive, left wing politics. Reforming the band for a one off show last year, the frontman is now set to return with a solo album.

'The Politics Of Envy' has been gestating for some time, with Mark Stewart able to draw on an impressive array of guest stars. Out on March 26th, the album contains appearances from (deep breath): original Clash/PiL guitarist Keith Levene, NYC punk innovator Richard Hell, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Gina Birch of the Raincoats, Slits bassist Tessa Pollitt, Jesus And Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart, Factory Floor, Daddy G of Massive Attack and all of Primal Scream.

A testament to Mark Stewart's enduring influence, but also to the veracity of what the songwriter wants to achieve on 'The Politics Of Envy'.

“The whole thing grew out of some art thing I was trying to do with Kenneth Anger, some kind of avatar...it’s passing it on but also paying homage" Mark Stewart said recently. "Anger’s spirit kind of hangs over the whole thing".
