Toro Y Moi

Freaking Out

Toro y Moi’s latest album, Underneath the Pine, is certainly one of the most pleasant releases of this year. Now comes word that the on-the-low innovator is gearing up to drop a new EP called Freaking Out. The first single, comes in the form of a cover of the Alexander O’Neal and Cherelle classic R&B duet, “Saturday Love”.

I’m not quite sure if a cover of this has been done before. And being that it’s pretty much a staple song for true R&B heads, hesitation going into this will be expected. However, surprisingly and impressively, Toro y Moi does a pretty awesome job at covering this and making it his own. His effortless ability to merge his style of electro chill-pop with that of (old-school) R&B really gives us a glimpse of the diversity and range of his ear.
