"It’s time that we began to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again" Leonard Cohen

Too many gone - The simple but emotive text message my mum sent me upon learning the sad news that Leonard Cohen had passed away. It felt like another tragic moment in a year that has barely stepped out of the darkness. We have lost too many of the voices of legends that we have all grown up listening to, confronting in and turning to, when we needed their music to help. We are lucky that all the music and words of those lost in 2016, will forever be with us.

Our album of the year here at Rise in 2016 is Nick Caves remarkable album Skeleton Tree, and despite it being a sombre listen, the music left a lasting mark on us. It's a beautiful and fantastic record.

As always the year has brought us many stand out albums, we hope you listen to the artists on our list and discover something new!

Thank you to all our customers who have visited Rise this year, without you we would be nothing!

Roll on 2017...
